SMLL Umpires,

The base/field mechanics training session will be held THIS SATURDAY at Oak Creek Little League Complex.

Details:

  • Date: Saturday, May 30th
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Location: OCLL Complex, Field 1
  • Pre-registration NOT required. Tennis shoes, dressed for the weather, and an eagerness to learn is, however.

The parking lot entrance is a one-way drive adjacent to the house on Shepherd Drive. It was being paved today, so the lot by the field may not be available. Drop-off is encouraged, pick-up in same spot.

What will be discussed:
In a normal year, we will be discussing plate mechanics and base mechanics for a 60’, 70’, and 90’ field. We will be going over the basic calls for what an umpire will make. We will also be going over mechanics to be used if the plate umpire is to make calls from behind the pitcher, and whether it’s a 1-umpire or 2-umpire system.

Social distancing will be the #1 priority, and the fields offer plenty of room to spread out. There will be NO scrimmage game played. There will be NO usage of any umpire plate equipment because equipment will not be shared. This is a practical walk through of plate and base mechanics for multiple levels.

Who can attend:

  • Any new umpire who went through the virtual umpire training.
  • Any veteran umpire who wants to get refresher training.
  • Any veteran umpire who wants to learn 70’ and 90’ base mechanics.

Please advise that upon arrival, and before/during/after training, social distancing will be REQUIRED.

TRAINING WILL START PROMPTLY AT 10:00 A.M. IF AN UMPIRE ARRIVES AT 10:00 THEY ARE LATE (JUST LIKE A GAME).

Thank you, and stay safe!

SMLL families,

As we prepare for the upcoming season the board is finalizing the social distancing guidelines that we will implement. The safety and health of our players, families and community is our main priority.

We are utilizing the information provided by the department of public health, Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization in the planning process. The plans that we are developing continue to evolve and we are going to need some additional time to finalize these and get the input from our health department before we can proceed. Because of this delay we are going to push back the initial practice date to* June 1st* with games beginning no earlier than two weeks after the start date. Our season would end no later than July 24th.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Please stay safe and healthy,

SMLL Safety Survey

Posted by South Milwaukee Little League at May 17, 2020 1:28PM PDT

The South Milwaukee Little League Board is working tirelessly to plan a modified 2020 Little League season.

Board members are working with State and City officials to plan for returning to the field, when and only when we can do so safely. There are already many ideas being considered and changes being implemented at the park to prepare for the safety of our players, coaches, umpires and all of our many volunteers.

We also recognize that each one of you is a member of the league and that we are discussing safety concerns that will affect our children as well as yours. Please complete our survey to provide your input so that we are better able to plan for the season.

Thank you,

Dear SMLL families,

As of right now we are still planning for practices to begin on May 26th.

The South Milwaukee Little League board is working with the South Milwaukee Public Health Administrator on guidelines to have a safe and healthy season. We will share these guidelines as we get closer to the opening of our season.

The health department has indicated that there are new guidelines that are being discussed at the state/federal levels which may affect youth sports. The recent order

Suburban Milwaukee County Order – COVID-19 Public Health Plan for Suburban Milwaukee County

– Issued on May 13th prohibits team sports activities but it set to expire on May 21st. Due to this uncertainty we are not going to post schedules until we get closer to practices beginning.

Please stay healthy!
