What it means to be part of South Milwaukee Little League
Since 1954 SMLL has been a stable force in the development of South Milwaukee’s youth. Generation after generation of familiar last names return to play each year. Embracing that tradition are families who have chosen, due the unique qualities of our area, to move from all over to make SM and it’s neighboring communities their home. This time of year evenings at SMLL Park are full of energy and go beyond softball and baseball. The volunteers behind all of this show tremendous pride and sense of community. These volunteers are all of you, the families of our great league. Here is a little sample of how that effort and pride shows though in an email between a board member and a parent who is just looking to help:
“It was nice that someone raked after last night’s game, with the rain and all, it made it easier for me this morning. Therefore I had extra time to chalk out the batter’s box and foul lines for you.”
The grass is getting long and I’d love to help with that but have never driven that large tractor style mower before.
Just a heads up that tomorrow I do have a field trip with my son early in the morning till about lunch time. I will still make it over there afterwards since I don’t have to be at work till 5:00"
Reply from board member:
“…the field looked awesome all week. Thanks for your great work.” “Volunteers like you make me proud to be part of SMLL”
Reply from parent:
“If you need more help just call, I’m proud to be part of what you guys have done for my family and others”
This is South Milwaukee Little League! We can all be proud of what has been passed down to us and our children over the past 60 years. As this season continues and we see situations that don’t emulate the great tradition, remember we don’t live in a fairy tail world. You can enhance any situation with a positive perspective, a word of kindness, and understanding. We all have the same goals…teach our kids the game and competition, make sure they have fun and continue the strong community tradition.
We will be posting more grounds opportunities shortly as coordination is difficult without a director of grounds.
