News and Announcements

Dear SMLL families,

As of right now we are still planning for practices to begin on May 26th.

The South Milwaukee Little League board is working with the South Milwaukee Public Health Administrator on guidelines to have a safe and healthy season. We will share these guidelines as we get closer to the opening of our season.

The health department has indicated that there are new guidelines that are being discussed at the state/federal levels which may affect youth sports. The recent order

Suburban Milwaukee County Order – COVID-19 Public Health Plan for Suburban Milwaukee County

– Issued on May 13th prohibits team sports activities but it set to expire on May 21st. Due to this uncertainty we are not going to post schedules until we get closer to practices beginning.

Please stay healthy!

SMLL Board of Directors

Hello South Milwaukee Little League families,

We are excited to announce our plans for the upcoming season and have a special request.

Your neighbors and friends need your help!

As we look forward to Little League softball and baseball in South Milwaukee, we need to ask for your help with an urgent matter. South Milwaukee Human Concerns is in critical need of non-perishable food items as the current crises has affected one of their major drives and created increased need among our neighbors and friends. To help this community need, South Milwaukee Little League is promoting the food drive organized by SM high school student Madelyn McCarty.

What: Donate non-perishable food
When: Wednesday, April 29th – 12 noon to 6 pm
Where: South Milwaukee HS Door #29

During this challenging time, help support SMLL’s partner, Human Concerns, and bring some good to our community members in need.

It’s time for SMLL softball and baseball!

  • Rosters and schedules will be posted on team pages by April 29th
  • TeamPages email invitations have been sent
  • Accept the invitation to access the team’s roster, schedule and announcements
  • Practice is scheduled to begin May 26
  • Game schedule will run June 8 – July 16

We are instituting measures to make practices and games as safe for players and their families. If your child is not already registered, we will continue to take registrations until team rosters are full. Priority will be given to returning players, additional players will otherwise be taken on a first-come-first-served basis. If your child is not yet registered and is interested in playing, send an email to southmilwaukeelittleleague@gmail.com that includes:

• Player’s Name
• Date of Birth
• Gender
• Team played on last season (if applicable)
• Parents name and contact information

SMLL

Dear South Milwaukee Little League Families,

We are living in uncertain and unprecedented times, but the SMLL Board of Directors looks forward to baseball and softball in South Milwaukee in a modified season when it is possible. In the meantime, the Board of Directors has voted unanimously to issue full refunds for the upcoming season.

Refunds will include:

  • Registration fees
  • Volunteer deposits
  • Candy buyouts

There will be no requirement to sell candy; no payments for candy will be collected.
Refunds will be sent out as soon as we work through the logistics with our registration vendor. Another notification will be sent out with the details of the transactions. We are taking this step to be supportive of our community, knowing families may need these funds.

The board has been working on potential timetables for a modified season and will continue to do so as the situation develops. We will notify families of those plans when they can be finalized. In the meantime, all players have been placed on teams for when the season kicks off. When that happens, no registration or other fees will be collected. We look forward to enjoying SMLL baseball and softball, the great community of SMLL family and friends, and providing players post-game treats.

For those who have not yet registered, we will accept additional registrations once we have finalized a start date for the season. Again, no fees will be collected for these registrations. However, new registrations will be limited to the number of players needed to fill out current team rosters. Families will be notified of this registration opportunity when the plans for the season can be finalized.

The communities served by South Milwaukee Little League have been and continue to be great places to raise a family. For Over 65 years, South Milwaukee Little League has been a fixture contributing to the community and is committed to continuing to do so. Please remember to support local businesses, as you are able. Many are our sponsors and ALL are important to our great community!

Please continue to follow guidelines by the CDC, federal, state and local governments. Be safe and stay healthy.

Dear South Milwaukee Little League Families,

In accordance with Little League International recommendations we will be extending the suspension of all South Milwaukee Little league activities until at least May 11, 2020.

The recommendations from the CDC are rapidly changing. At this time, we anticipate that teams will be able to start practices May 11th. We are completing the rosters and will forward those to our team managers later this week. Monday the 23rd we plan posting the rosters on South Milwaukee Little League website.

During the week of the 23rd we will be sending out the Teampages invites. It is important that you accept those invites as soon as possible to receive future communications. Please let your manager know if a parent or guardian does not receive the invite.

South Milwaukee Little League has been an integral part of this community for generations and we are always dedicated to providing the best season we can, but especially during this unprecedented time. The board of directors has been working on different scenarios so we can be ready when we can kick off the 2020 Little League season. I truly appreciate all of their time and efforts.

I would like to take this time to thank all of our volunteers. Our managers and coaches give so much of their time to directly impact the youth of our community. Umpires already have started training for the upcoming season. Concession supervisors are working on great new items and processes for the concession stand, so our players can enjoy their treat after every game. Our grounds crew is making plans on maintenance and upgrades to the park. Also, kudos to our partners City of South Milwaukee, South Milwaukee School district, Zion School and Church. All are key components in our success.

Respectfully
Tony Goodenough

Dear South Milwaukee Little League Umpires,

Based on Little League International’s decision to suspend activities until May 11th, D6 is CANCELLING the upcoming WebX learning sessions scheduled for Sunday, March 22nd and Sunday, March 29th.

The clinics being planned for the northern leagues on 4/18 in the morning and the 70’/90’ clinic in the afternoon has been CANCELLED.

The one-day umpire training session scheduled for 4/18 in Burlington for the southern leagues has been CANCELLED.

Updates to future training opportunities will be provided when they are developed. In the meantime, prospective youth and adult umpires are encouraged to visit www.littleleague.org > Resources > Umpires. There are a lot of videos that new umpires can watch and learn. Hey…school is cancelled…virtual learning at the moment! Also, umpires…youth and adult…new and old…should consider joining the “umpire registry”. It is now free.

Thanks for your continued patience, flexibility and understanding.

Steve Kurkowski
D6 Asst. UIC
